Wither is a display typeface having six different weight variations that capture the natural process of decaying. It uses the organic curves and thinner negative space lines as its constructing principle. Inspired by alluring but grotesque forms of nature such as fungi and creepers, the decreasing weight of the font mimics the process of withering with time in its own form.
The foundations of the typeface come from studying forms of flora and fauna particularly those that are considered grotesque, such as fungi and creepers. These organic shapes not only create the illusion of decaying forms but uses negative space both in traditional and decorative manners by adding smaller details in the form of negative space.
Further inspired by the sensation of decaying and withering as the key concept of the letterforms, five more versions of decrasing weight have been created. Taken as a whole, the Wither family makes full use of the wide spectrum of optical balance and variation of positive and negative space. All six styles share a common framework, with weight and level of detail broadly determining each subfamily’s application.
The crumbling tone of this display font suits itself to organic and earthy designs especially if dealing with themes of usage, traces, decay and passing of time.
